The Woman Who Remembers
24.09.2026 - 09.10.2026
“Library 20” 35a Preobrazhenskaya St., Odessa, Ukraine

The solo exhibition of artist and performer Marichka Leon, titled “The Woman Who Remembers,” is opening in the exhibition space of the I. G. Bahrytskyi Library. The project explores femininity as a space of personal memory, corporeality, coming of age, and inner strength.
The exhibition features two series of paintings that build a dialogue between childhood and the present:
Decorative female portraits — an experiment with plasticity, where realistic facial features are transformed through geometry, rhythm, and color. The image of the woman here is not static but is shown in a constant search for her own form.
“Stories of Bears and Dolls” — paintings featuring original handmade toys created by the artist's mother, Olena Budykina. This is a narrative about objects of memory, childhood fantasies, care, and the warmth that a person carries throughout their life.
By combining these two series, Marichka Leon creates a space between the past and the present, between a girl and a woman. Thus, the image of the woman who remembers is formed.
In the library space, where thousands of stories are kept, Marichka Leon's exhibition resonates as a visual diary. It serves as a reminder: childhood does not disappear with age, and memory lives on in objects, images, and the body, granting every woman the right to independently craft her own life myth.
