Images as an Act of Art

A dual exhibition titled “Images as an Act of Art” will take place at the Art Gallery of Pivdenne — a joint project by Marichka Leon and Borys Bielov, Honored Artist of Ukraine and Head of the Decorative and Applied Arts Section of the Odesa Regional Organization of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine.

The project is structured as two personal exhibitions coexisting in a single space and entering into a dialogue. Each artist maintains the autonomy of their artistic language while simultaneously creating a shared field of visual interaction.

The exhibitions of both artists are dominated by female portraits in various guises, referring the viewer to different stories and cultural layers: from traditional archetypes of femininity to cinematic and literary figures, such as Sophia Loren or Esmeralda. Theatricality manifests itself as the internal dramaturgy of the image.

The space of the Art Gallery of Pivdenne becomes a point of intersection for two independent artistic positions and the viewer.
